The health and safety of our residents and staff is our utmost concern. In light of the current national emergency, please be advised of the following changes to our normal operating procedures. These changes will be re-evaluated continually through the current crisis:

Although our office is closed to the public, staff will continue to work with clients through the mail, through phone interviews, email, fax and via our secure drop off box located just outside our main door at the 1108 N Seminary, Woodstock location.  Due to staff reductions, we do not have the full services of a Receptionist, so please make use of email or use extensions to go directly to the staff person you are trying to contact.  A full staff directory of emails and extensions, as well as the most up-to-date information on our assistance programs can be found using the link below.  For fastest service, email is recommended.  If you are unsure to whom your email should be directed, please email Holly Lyons at , and she will direct your email to the correct staff member.  We will continue to update the public through this website, so please check back for updates.

The McHenry County Housing Authority (MCHA) has been assisting McHenry County residents since 1947.


What does the McHenry County Housing Authority do?


  • Administers the federal Housing Choice Voucher Program that provides rental assistance for very low income tenants
  • Provides Public Housing in scattered site three-bedroom homes throughout McHenry County for very low income families
  • Provides Senior Housing for low income senior citizens and disabled individuals in two rental developments located in Huntley and Richmond
  • Administers a Homeless Prevention Program, Emergency Shelter Program & other community services
  • Administers a Rehab Program that assists very low income homeowners to repair their homes
  • Administers the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) that assists low income households to afford the costs of heating and cooling their homes
  • Administers the Weatherization Program that assists low income households to make repairs to their homes that will reduce the costs of heating and cooling the homes
