The McHenry County Housing Authority (MCHA) administers the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) and will begin accepting applications for winter heating assistance beginning July 27, 2020
LIHEAP is a state and federally funded energy assistance program for low-income families, in which either a family receives a one-time, lump-sum payment toward energy bills, or is enrolled in a monthly Percentage of Income Payment Program (PIPP), as funding allows.

How to Obtain Assistance:

Applicants must have the following documentation with them for the appointment:
- Proof of all income for all household members for the 30 days prior to the day of their appointment (includes, but is not limited to: paycheck stubs, Social Security income, Unemployment, SSI, TANF, General Assistance from Township)
- Current Utility Bills – gas, electric, fuel oil, propane
- Social Security Cards for all Household Members

COMED HARDSHIP
The Residential Special Hardship Fund can assist with up to $500 on a past due bill for households with specific hardship situations. Assistance can only be obtained one time every two years.
