McHenry County Housing Authority announces the start of the 2025 energy assistance program

McHenry County Housing Authority, as administrator of the Home Energy Assistance Program in McHenry County, is pleased to announce that funds are available to assist income-eligible households with their natural gas, propane, and electric bills. The program will begin October 1, 2024 with priority, in October, for customers that are Seniors (60+), households that have a family member who receives social security disability, families with children under the age of 5 and households with disconnections and disconnection notices. November 1st, all income-eligible households may apply. Applications will be taken on a first-come first-served basis through August 15th, 2025 unless funding is exhausted earlier. All households in need are encouraged to apply. Propane customers are encouraged to apply when the program opens in October to take advantage of lower propane prices.

Also, LIHEAP eligible homeowners can apply for Emergency Furnace assistance. The furnace must be non-operational. The Emergency Furnace Program ends May 31, 2025, unless funding is exhausted.

Important: To submit an application, you MUST submit ALL of the required documents.

* Proof of Social Security numbers or Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (!TIN) for all household members. Individuals without SSN or !TIN can still apply and we will advise.

* Proof of all gross income for all household members for 30 days prior including the application date such as pay check stubs, SSA/SSI/SSD income, pension/retirement statements, unemployment reports, child support, TANF/ AABD/Township General Assistance, self- employment reports/banking transactions, and proof of zero income.

* Current Gas/Propane and Electric bills issued within the last 30

* Copy of current lease if any utilities are included in the rent
